10th January 2009 - Happy New Yeeeear!
I hope you've had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year; apart from a horrible cold, I have! I received some heartfelt pressies, including one from one of my housemates. He bought me the DVD Orangutan Diary, and I have already watched it again and again. It's really good - if you want to know more about orangutans and rehabilitation you should love it too!

I appear to have caught some kind of disease from the rainforest, although it's not a bad one. I think it's called Rainforestloveritis (maybe you can think of a better name) and I'll have it forever. Even though it's been months since I visited the wild home of the orangutan, I still miss it, loads and loads. Symptoms of Rainforestloveritis include what happened to me today. My rainforest bag is in the corner of my room. I realised today that one of my items of clothing had ended up on it. As I picked the item up I caught a whiff of rainforest dirt. I told you the smell of rainforest never goes away! The smell had transferred onto the clothing and I found myself smelling the clothing, and then smelling the bag. The disease worsened as I opened the bag and investigated all my rainforest bits and bobs that are still stored in the bag. Memories came flooding back.

I keep wanting to go back to the rainforest, a feeling so strong it even haunts me in my dreams. I feel sad that I haven't collected enough donations to balance my first trip yet, so I can't really save up for my next trip, although saying that, I do have a large rucksack and such now so I won't have to buy a new one next time I go.

I haven't done a new fund-raising competition yet. I'm wondering how I can get more advertising, since I feel that if I started the competition now, hardly anyone would enter. Maybe I'll try asking some different people in university and see if they can help - not the people that sort out stalls, and not the people that I talked to about the non-existing university craft fair. Maybe I can find someone else that can make my orangutan project more successful.

31st January 2009 - Another portrait finished
I completed another portrait a few days ago, but I don't have a scan of it this time. The recipient of the portrait really loved it, but now I have no more portraits to do for a while. Back to uni in a few days... I was hoping I could make a few more orangutan models too, but I guess not.

Chris got me some rainforest sounds on CD, so if I close my eyes I can pretend I'm there.
