2nd November 2008 - Almost half way...
I'm still aliiiiive. It's almost been a year since I started this diary, and we're almost half way to the conservation target. We're actually over half way now with the conservation trip money, woo hoo! University work is starting to increase, so my orangutan work has had to decrease, but I'm still battling on with both things.
I did ask University about the Christmas craft fair, since I didn't get a reply via email I tried asking in person. They said I'd be sent information about it but nothing has arrived yet. I hope they haven't forgotten... maybe they haven't planned it yet! My friends have been giving me ideas on how to expand my handicrafts range, so I hope I do get a craft stall to sell them on.
Oh yes, and I've also seen a draft of an article about me and my orangutan conservation. It looks good!
8th November 2008 - Baby orangutans
Nothing much to say apart from click here to have a dose of baby orangutan goodness... awwwwww! It's such a shame that these orangutans are orphans; normally they'd be with their mothers. Although they look ever so appealing, please remember that they make terrible pets - they are very intelligent, can be very strong willed and end up being several times more powerful than a human. If that's not enough for you then in the process of being captured their mother tends to be killed, sometimes along with other orangutans, sometimes even the baby itself dies. I don't want my family murdered and me to be caged or chained, neither do they... need I go on? I hope not. Those orangutans are only there because of what humans have done, I'd much rather see them with their real parents in the trees, safe and sound.
